Beijing opera or Peking opera (simplified Chinese: 京剧; traditional Chinese: 京劇) is a form of traditional Chinese theatre which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. . Whereever there are chinese there is Beijing opera. Beijing opera arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. After more than two hundred years’ evolution it has become one of the cultural treasures of China, and an essence of art treature of the mankind as well.

Edmonton Beijing Opera Association (EB0A), founded in February 2002, is a non-profitable artistic group whose principals and goals are to inherit and promote and expand the thaditional chinese art—Beijing Opera, to introduce and spread the knowledge of traditional operas, to promote and strengthen the cultural exchanges between China and the cities of north america, to enrich the cultural life of the local communities. With the support of Edmonton public, EB0A has brought a Beijing opera’s Spring to Edmonton under the leadship of th president and director of our association.

From the performance of the master of Beijing Opera, Mei Baojiu, to the singsing of our only members, EB0A has tried with different approaches to introduce Beijin Opera to the entire Alberta and Edmonton public to enhence the public understanding and appreciation of Beijing Opera. Our efforts have strengened the culcural exchanges between China and Canada as we hoped, and we welcome more Beijin Opeara enthusiats would join us.
